The Fund for Art and Civic Engagement (FACE) and Sound Sculptures

I’ve commissioned several works of art over the years that have been temporary activations or ephemeral works. Here are some highlights:

The Fund for Art and Civic Engagement (FACE)
FACE was a grant-making program that provided artists with both funding and land for creating temporary works of art. Artists were given access to vacant lots owned by the Philadelphia Redevelopment Authority to create projects that temporarily created new community spaces and arts experiences. Artists included Maria Woller, Laura Deutch, and the performing arts organization First Person Arts.

Sound Sculptures
Sound Sculptures was a love letter to Philadephia’s public art. Bowerbird, a Philadelphia organization dedicated to presenting experimental art performances, curated and produced a series of original compositions inspired by public art in Philadelphia. QR codes were installed near sculptures around the city, allowing people to access the audio while looking at the sculpture. Artists participating in the project included Philadelphia DJ and composer King Britt, and sound designer James Plotkin.
